House washing and sealcoating

This is home, so Newark gets the shortest notice.

Newark is where the trucks start the day, which means most Newark jobs can be looked at quickly and scheduled without waiting on a route. If you are off Main Street, out toward Pike Creek, down 896 or over by Glasgow, you are a few minutes away.

The housing stock here splits two ways. Closer to downtown and the University there are capes, ranches and split levels from the fifties through the seventies, with mature trees over most of them. Out toward Fairfield, Christianstead and the developments off 273 and 896 it is mostly two story colonials from the eighties onward, vinyl sided, with asphalt driveways laid around the same time.

Both have their own problem. The older end of town has tree cover that keeps north facing walls damp for most of the year, so mildew comes back faster and gutters fill twice a season. The newer developments are at the age where original asphalt is losing its binder, which is why sealcoating has been the busiest thing on the schedule.

Rentals near campus are their own category. If you are turning a property over between tenants, a house wash and a driveway clean reset the curb appeal faster and cheaper than almost anything else, and we can work to a handover date.

What we see on houses in Newark

  1. 1

    Mildew on the shaded wall

The north and east faces under tree cover go green first. Pressure knocks it off for a season. A soft wash kills the root and buys years.

  2. 2

Asphalt from the eighties and nineties

Driveways in the older developments are at the point where the stone is working loose. Sealing now is a fraction of repaving later.

  3. 3

Gutter stripes that a house wash misses

Those black vertical lines on the gutter face are oxidation, not dirt. They need a brightener worked in by hand or the gutters stay dark against clean siding.

  4. 4

Concrete that looks worn out but is not

Most tired looking Newark driveways and front walks are a layer of algae and road film on perfectly good concrete.
