The most tree cover in the county, and the siding knows it.
Hockessin is wooded, and that single fact drives most of what we do up here. Mature canopy keeps north and east walls shaded and damp for most of the year, so mildew and algae grow faster and come back sooner than anywhere else we work.
The materials are more demanding too. Stucco, stone, cedar and painted wood are common on Hockessin homes, and not one of them tolerates a pressure washer. Stucco in particular is unforgiving. Force drives water into the wall system and can take the finish coat off entirely, and the repair is expensive and visible. Everything up here is a genuine soft wash: low pressure, the right mix, dwell time, rinse.
Gutters are the other standing issue. Oaks and maples fill them twice a year, once with spring seed and again in fall, and a packed downspout elbow on a larger home puts a lot of water somewhere it should not go. Most Hockessin customers run gutters twice a year rather than once.
Driveways here tend to be long, often asphalt, and often under the same trees that drop everything else. Shaded asphalt grows its own green film, and sealing protects the surface from both the sun that does reach it and the moisture that never leaves.
What we see on houses in Hockessin
- 1
Permanently shaded walls
North and east elevations under canopy barely dry out. Killing the growth at the root is the only thing that lasts.
- 2
Stucco and stone
Both are soft wash only. Pressure on stucco means a repair bill that dwarfs the cleaning.
- 3
Gutters twice a year
Spring seed pods and fall leaf drop. One clean out a year is usually not enough on a wooded lot here.
- 4
Long shaded driveways
Asphalt under trees develops a green film of its own and holds moisture year round.
